Staff Sergeant Nicholas A. Sprovtsoff was born April 4, 1983 in Flint, Michigan. He attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California in August 2001. After Recruit Training, he attended Amphibious Assault Vehicle Crewman School aboard Camp Pendleton, California. In June 2002, Staff Sergeant Sprovtsoff reported to 2nd Amphibious Assault Battalion H&S Company as an Amphibious Assault Crewman. He deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in January 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Staff Sergeant Sprovtsoff deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in 2004 in support of Operation Phantom Fury. In June 2005, he reported to Marine Corps Base Hawaii, where he checked into 3rd Marine Regiment, Combat Assault Company and in November 2006 Staff Sergeant Sprovtsoff deployed to Afghanistan as a member of an Embedded Training Team, working with the Afghan National Army. In November 2007, he returned to Afghanistan as a member of an Embedded Training Team as a combat replacement. In May 2008, Staff Sergeant Sprovtsoff put in a lateral transfer package for the MOS of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). In January of 2009, Staff Sergeant Sprovtsoff reported to Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal for basic EOD training, graduating in October 2009. Following EOD School, he reported to 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion’s (MSOB) EOD section and was sent to the Basic Reconnaissance Course, where he was awarded the Ironman Award for Class 4-10. Staff Sergeant Sprovtsoff then returned to 1st MSOB and again deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Staff Sergeant Sprovtsoff’s personal awards include the Silver Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with “V” Device, two Army Achievement Medals, two Combat Action Ribbons, and various other campaign medals and decorations.
Staff Sergeant Nicholas Sprovtsoff is survived by his wife Tasha, daughter Lanie, son Tank, parents Jack and Sandra, and sister Jessica.
