Testimonials

I was diagnosed with PTSD in 2004, patted on the head, given some antidepressants and sent on my merry way. It got worse in 2009, and finally in 2012, I had to retire from my second career. By the time I applied for PATHH in 2018, I was just a breath away from being one of the 22 vets we lose every day. This opportunity from the EOD Warrior Foundation and PATHH saved my life, and I am forever grateful.

Attending the Female EOD Warrior PATHH with sister EOD techs was life changing. I was able to heal and share in an environment with others who understood the unique struggles a woman in the service faces. The curriculum was nothing I expected. It was a thousand times better. I left with excellent coping skills and an amazing group of friends. I can already feel and see the positive turn my life is taking. I am forever grateful to the EOD Warrior Foundation.

My daughter came back a completely different teenager! Not only did she make life long friends with others who share the same circumstance, but she’s happy. Finding happiness might seem simple for many, but for my daughter, it has taken a long time to get to this point. It has been amazing to watch her smile and laugh, again!

Your willingness and selflessness to help others makes a difference. Thank you for making it possible for these teenagers to find hope and laughter, after losing a parent! It truly means so much!

Gold Star Spouse

I wanted to take a moment to tell you this wonderful retreat renewed my mind, body and spirit. I will forever grieve the loss of someone so very special to me, but this retreat allowed me to share this grief with parents whose children did the very same job. Since we are all in different levels of our grief and we grieve differently, we were able to bond with one another and be each others strength, comfort, source of support, and most of all, friend.

Gold Star Mother

Words, by themselves, cannot describe the changes in my heart and in my daily life, since my wife and I attended the EOD Warrior Foundation Gold Star Parent’s Retreat. No way I could narrow it down to any specific part of the weekend. It had to the combination of the amazing and peaceful location, the dedicated and compassionate counselors, an “in your face” challenging curriculum, and the priceless opportunity to live, share and cry with other Gold Star Parents, that sadly understand the pain of guilt and frustration that has haunted me every day since my son died. I’m living the life that I know my son would want me to live for the first time in over five years. I encourage everyone to attend an event if they can.

Gold Star Father

I am extremely grateful to have been selected and awarded this opportunity to continue pursuing my education. Completing college has always been a goal of mine, it was often delayed due to lack of money. It feels so great inside to be working toward accomplishing this dream and setting an example for our son. Failure is not an option. I need to graduate and be successful so I can provide a better life for my husband and our son.

EOD Spouse, 2017 Scholarship Recipient

When we lost our son, our world was instantly shattered. The EOD Warrior Foundation folded us into their family and let us know we would never be alone on this journey.

Gold Star Mother

In 2014, as a blinded EOD Warrior, I was gifted a house by a home building charity. There were numerous problems identified after moving in and for the next year and a half, we tried relentlessly to work with the builder to address and correct these issues to no avail. It was at that time I was introduced to the EOD Warrior Foundation. With no idea what to do next, and overwhelmed by the challenges we faced, the EODWF helped me secure pro bono legal counsel. After nearly six months, of tireless work on their part, my attorney and his team were on the verge of settling with the builder to buy my home back. The EODWF’s assistance not only made this possible, but they also helped fly my mother and father to Washington to provide sighted help while I transitioned. It was a rough couple of years, and I don’t think any of this would have happened without the amazing support of the EODWF.

EOD Warrior

What is EoD?

EOD stands for Explosive Ordnance Disposal, the disarming and disposal of bombs. EOD technicians are highly-trained military members serving in the Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force who are responsible for disarming, rendering safe, and disposing of explosive hazards.

EOD Technicians fulfill a special, difficult, and important role in the military. Because of this, Technicians and their families often face challenges that are entirely unique to their service and this highly specialized field. It is the EOD Warrior Foundation’s deepest honor to meet these challenges head on by providing important resources and assistance to the EOD Community at large. Just as EOD Technicians serve our country by disarming and rendering safe ordnance, the EOD Warrior Foundation is proud to “Disarm Challenges” that they face!

The EOD profession is one of the most dangerous occupations in the military. On average there are over 6,000 brave men and women serving as EOD technicians who willingly put themselves in harms way to protect the lives and property of others. Their service includes support to the most complex special operations missions. In current conflicts, bombs known as improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are responsible for the majority of fatalities and severe injuries to our troops.

When EODs technicians are wounded they sustain some of the most severe and often life-changing injuries including loss of limbs, burns, paralysis, blindness and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Many EOD warriors also experience Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).Recovery and rehabilitation from these injuries can be extensive and require months and sometimes years of inpatient and outpatient care and has a significant emotional and financial impact on the injured EOD warrior and their families. For the families of fallen EOD warriors, surviving family members face many changes and challenges in their lives as they grieve the loss of a loved one.

The EOD Warrior Foundation is supported by an indivisible network of EOD family and friends. This support enables EOD warriors and their families and families of fallen EOD warriors to face the future with hope, knowing they are not alone, as they forge a new life and ensures the EOD heroes who make the ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.
